Leyton Orient

A structural survey of the main stand at Leyton Orient was required for alterations to make way for new apartment buildings.

Plans of location and size of all structural elements (columns, beams, roof trusses, bracing, concrete terraces, sheeting rails), services, undercroft, seating and cross sections were needed on an existing coordinate system.

It was essential to collect data as efficiently as possible to complete the survey within tight time restraints. Quick data capture was possible using the cyrax scanners. Two field parties were used on site, one fixed the survey to existing control, recorded control points for the scans and collected services and topo data that would not be included within the scans. Another team operated two cyrax scanners.

Complex and inaccessible structures, such as the roof detail, were captured from multiple scans taken from various positions ensuring total coverage of the target area. Everything within the target area was measured, no detail missed, and there was no need to revisit the site.

Measurements were made in the office when the scans were registered to create a scan world - a full 3D model. The registered scans allow easy manipulation of detail and allow the measurement of each individual piece of structural steel. With over 10 different steel types identified no assumptions can be made on the size of any structural elements.

The final survey can be presented in any format required by the client.
